Granny

A day after her son was born,
her husband left her,
to fend for herself.

Returning from the hospital,
her jewelry,
cash,
and valuables,
all lost along with him.

Picking herself up,
she continued on with her life,
working odd jobs,
as the only female coolie in Clarke Quay,
supporting for her only son,
and her 'husbands' very own parents.

Her dearests kins,
her sibling,
too,
decided upon leaving their parents,
to this lonesome woman.

Struggling on,
her only motivation,
was that her only son,
would grow up,
and do her proud,
making each and everyone of her efforts,
of raising 5 people,
all worth while.

After years of hardship,
her son reach adulthood.
He,
in turn,
failed her.

Downed into gamble and alcohol,
he lost his senses.
A shotgun marraige brought along a grandson for Granny,
which they tossed to her,
while leaving her alone,
going about their own selfish ways.

She continues on her battle,
and brought up her grandson,
with her every penny,
till he was 19.

Deciding that they wanted him back,
her son decided to fetch his son back,
attempting to make up for what he has failed to give.

A mere 3 months,
Granny received a call from her grandson's friend
"你的孙子跳楼,过世了!“
(your grandson jumped from a building!)
The bonds they built,
the laughters they shared,
the love she showered upon him,
were all shattered,
at that very instant.

Granny,
picked herself up,
soldiered on.

A welfare home called along,
informing her that her husband,
fell seriously ill,
and was admitted into a hospital.

She visited him,
and took care of him.
Fulfilling her every role as a wife,
for a man,
who left her all alone,
fending for herself.

The moment that man came out of his illness,
his lustful ways returned.
3 girlfriends,
never sparing a thought for his faithful partner.
And,
not unexpectedly,
left her all by herself,
again.

Luck,
still seemed to avoid this wonderful woman.

Diagnosed with colon cancer,
she went through chemotherapy,
which left her 90% blind.
With the man whom she cared for,
dropping by occasionally,
only a casual word of “你还好吗?”
before throwing her back into her desolate world.

She recovered.
And stood back unto her own feet,
moving on with her new lease of life.

Her husband,
who left her almost 40 years ago,
could no longer go on with his carnal ways,
due to senile dementia.

Where could he have gone?
Back to her.
Would she care?
Yes she did.

“就到我还剩下一口气,
我愿意照顾他至死。”
(till my last breathe,
i'd take care of him)

Despite her sight,
she goes about life,
the laundry,
cooking,
housework,
her husband
(who can no longer control his bowels),
without a breathe of complain,
nor regret.

Asked if she needed any assistance in life,
she merely replied,
"我看不见,
但是不能走路的人更加辛苦,
可以帮他们买些轮椅吗?“
(i can't see,
but being who can't walk are worse off,
can you get them wheelchairs?)

She's the quintessential woman.
-

I cant't help,
but type this post out.
Here we are,
living in a materialistic world.
Me,
wondering how this or that is going to make me look better,
wondering how he or she is going to view me,
wondering how life is going to treat me better,
when all I'd ever need,
is the peace and tranquility within,
and to be content,
and happy with my own life.

She may be a nondescript elderly woman,
decked out in apparel we may deem unattractive.
And yet,
what she possesses inside of her,
is a heart of a beautiful lady,
who will always put everyone else,
right where her heart resides.
I may not know her,
but I thank the heavens,
for such an angel,
resides amongst the crowds of us.

人家做过什么没关系,
只要你放的下,
就好了。

Thank you,
Granny.
